Fresh from Summer NAMM 2012, acoustic drumhead manufacturer Aquarian have entered the digital market. Unlike traditional triggers from DDrum and Roland; or current hybrids like Jobecky’s, the inHEAD sits on your own kit AND functions as a pro-quality acoustic drumhead. The trigger is built into the skin, giving unprecedented sensitivity (according to Aquarian!).

Available in any standard size from 8″ to 16″, there’s a skin for every tom and snare – and the familiar feel of a natural drumhead will suit those who find rubber or mesh V-Pads uncomfortable to play. The heads are fitted and tuned just like any of the other products in Aquarian’s lines, and can be used to trigger Roland, Yamaha, Alesis, 2Box, or any other digital drum module.

The increased separation between drums – with no negative impact on sensitivity – will be music to the ears of many drummers and producers already working with hybrid kits. With patents still pending, and an official release still to be announced, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a number of high-profile dance band drummers sporting this technology in the near future.
