SSL X-Rack: Rack up your dream components.

If you’re the type to drool over highend gear, chances are high that you’ve looked at least once at an SSL-equipped studio and dreamed of reaching the heights where buying such a console makes sense.

Few of us will get there, but that’s where the X-Rack comes in. It’s a 4-unit modular rack system capable of holding up to 8 individual modules of your choice. Add SuperAnalogue or VHD preamps for that “magic” SSL sound, or use stereo EQ and compression modules to create a unique Stereo Buss Mixer.

Input modules include X-Rack Mic Amp, which gives crystal-clear signal boost to mic, line and instrument inputs; X-Rack VHD Input, combining classic SSL character with the new Variable Harmonic Drive circuit for added dirt and warmth; and four/eight channel versions of the Mic Amp module, for summing applications where maximum channel counts are important.

Dynamic control modules come in the shape of the user-friendly, feature-rich SuperAnalogue Dynamics; the unique signature-sounding E Series Dynamics module from the desk of the same name; the all-in-one stereo Compresser/Limiter and Expander/Gate circuits of the X-Rack Stereo Dynamics Module; and the unit “with a simple purpose, making complete mixes sound bigger” – the Stereo Bus Compressor Module.

EQ colours include the classic gritty SSL E Series EQ; SuperAnalogue EQ, switchable between E & G series characteristics; and Stereo EQ, a twin-channel version of X-Rack’s SuperAnalogue EQ.

Finally, the Master Bus Module turns X-Rack from a processor into a mixer. Depending on which of the modules you choose to make up your X-Rack, this 4U unit can provide stunning numbers of preamp inputs, high-class EQ, a bespoke channel strip, dynamic control, or mix bus processing, all with the inimitable sound of Solid State Logic.
