TC Electronic revolutionised the market when in 2010 it introduced the world’s first polyphonic tuner pedal, the PolyTune. This multi-awarded-winning pedal gets rid of the old way of string-by-string tuning.  In 2011, the same company introduced the PolyTune as an app for the iPhone, iTouch, and iPad.

The PolyTune app is 1:1 with the pedal version. This means that the app possesses the same key features as the pedal version, such as two tuning modes (polyphonic and standard chromatic), guitar and bass modes, 0.5 percent accuracy, reference pitch settings ranging from 435Hz to 445Hz, and presets for alternative tunings from E Flat down to B. Additionally, the app version of the PolyTune automatically saves the current preset settings (even after your device has been turned off!), and comes with retina display support (for latest generations of iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad), and colorblind mode.

Using the PolyTune app

The PolyTune app can be used with the internal microphone of the device or with an external microphone.

The PolyTune app offers two handy modes: In polyphonic mode, just strum the guitar/bass and the PolyTune app will automatically tells you which strings need tuning. On the other hand, you could pick one string at a time and the PolyTune app will change automatically to the classic chromatic tuning mode.

The PolyTune app has been found useful in an off-stage environment, due to the reduce possibility of outside noise that could get picked up by the device’s built-in microphone. In a live environment, the pedal version is recommended, due to its standard built-in 1/4” TRS input and output. Nevertheless, this app could work efficiently in a studio environment, where no type of cable connection is needed. Eventually, this app will save you time, because you won’t have to modify the signal chain every time tuning is needed.

Key Features

- PolyTune: Strum-Tune-Rock!
PolyTune ® is the world’s first polyphonic tuner – a multiple patents pending, game-changing total tuning turnaround that allows you to instantly gauge the tuning of all your strings simultaneously and tune up on the fly, ALL strings at once.

- MonoPoly

MonoPoly is a new technology that recognizes whether you play one or more strings and instantly replies with the appropriate poly or monophonic tuning mode.

- Chromatic Champ
Besides the Polyphonic tuner, PolyTune has a chromatic tuner that can hang with the best current tuning technology out there, with an amazing 0.5 cent accuracy.

- Tuning Magnet
The tuner magnet feature slows down the needle once you get close to the desired pitch, making it much easier to get the job done quickly.

- Total Recall
PolyTune stores your preferences. From pitch reference to tuning mode, it hangs on to this information even after it is powered down, making sure you only have to set how you want things to happen once.

- Guitar/bass mode
PolyTune app can be set up for guitar and bass.

- Reference Pitch
The reference pitch can be set up between 435Hz and 445Hz.

- Drop-tunings
The PolyTune can use alternative pitches from E Flat to B.

- Retina display support
Retina display support for latest generations of iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad

 - Colorblind mode
