Largely thanks to the release of Maschine hardware, Native Instruments DJ Software TRAKTOR has largely overtaken Serato as the controller of choice for house, techno, and hip hop performers. The latest release Traktor Pro 2 features 4 decks, remix decks, looping capabilities, and 30 effects.
The audio browser enables you to drop tracks into the decks and view the waveforms, which greatly speeds up the process of finding the right section of a track for remix. Pro 2′s new Remix Decks allow live remixing and re-arranging of tracks, with a library of one-shot samples and loops included – and the ability to live-sample from your tracks. You can even save your remix sets for posterity and for use in future live sets.
Beat-matching and sync’ing your tracks from the iTunes-integrated library is made easy by NI algorithms which automatically find the pulse of the track concerned, and match BPMs instantly, allowing you to concentrate on the more creative side of mixing. Like CDJ systems, the software includes versatile cue functions and seamless looping capabilities.
TRAKTOR PRO 2 supports the use of an external mixer (with multiple outputs for integration into larger hardware setups), but also includes a fully-functional software mixer, which is controllable by external MIDI. 30 individual effects can be chained together for up to 12 simultaneous sound FX in single or group modes, creating huge buildups before the drop.
All this power at your fingertips makes TRAKTOR PRO 2 one of the most advanced DJ performance tools available in the software world – and an extremely useful addition to any large hardware system, giving some truly creative functionality.
