The Q2HD is technically a handheld camcorder, but with mid-side stereo condenser mic, analogue gain control, and 24bit/96KHz recording, the audio capabilities alone make it worth a look.
The Q2HD can record video in full HD at 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, but you can also select 720p HD for longer recordings, as well as SD formats for smaller file sizes.
The Q2HD has a lighting selection function that allows you to record using the best setting for any given lighting condition. “Auto” automatically adjusts brightness and color, “Concert Lighting” suppresses oversaturation from strong lighting and “Night” is ideal for filming in dark situations.
Audio-wise, the Q2HD produces high-quality WAV files, or lossless AAC files to save space. The analogue mic wheel allows you to adjust gain for the situation and avoid the audio compression of similar camcorders – or simply select one of the preset gain levels for ease of use. A built – HighPass filter cuts low noise and provides clear audio recordings.
Recordings can be monitored through headphones or the small internal speaker, and the bundled HandyShare software provides compression, reverb, and other mastering tools to polish the final product.
A built-in colour LCD screen and editing functions allow you to trim unwanted footage and save SD space, and HDMI connectivity allows instant audiovisual monitoring with a compatible TV.
On top of all that, connect the Q2HD to a computer (or iPad) and you have a USB Mid-Side microphone, or streaming device compatible with UStream, Flash Media Live, Skype, and more.
